Vilapi (Thin Rice Gruel)
Extremely thin rice gruel — rice boiled in many times its volume of water until the starch dissolves, drunk as a restorative drink described in the Charaka Samhita.
Cuisine: Ancient World
Ingredients
- white rice, water (1:14 ratio), rock salt, optional: ginger juice, ghee
Instructions
- Rinse rice thoroughly. Add to 14 times its volume of cold water. Bring to boil. Simmer uncovered 25-30 minutes without stirring. The rice will dissolve, leaving a thin, starchy liquid. Strain out remaining grain. Season with a pinch of rock salt. Add a few drops of ginger juice and a small spoon of ghee. Drink warm.
