Traditional Bannock
A simple, versatile flatbread that is a staple in Indigenous Canadian cuisine.

Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups water or milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter or lard
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in liquid and melted butter. Mix gently until a soft dough forms. Do not overwork. Pat into circles about 1 inch thick. Fry in a hot, lightly oiled skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Alternatively, bake in a 400°F oven for 20 minutes.
