Traditional Butter Tarts
A quintessentially Canadian sweet treat consisting of a flaky pastry shell filled with a gooey, buttery, caramel-like center.
Cuisine: Canada
Ingredients
- 12 unbaked tart shells (homemade or store-bought)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place tart shells on a baking sheet. If using raisins, divide them among the shells. In a bowl, whisk together butter, sugar, corn syrup, egg, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Fill shells about 3/4 full with the mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes until filling is bubbling and pastry is golden. Allow to cool completely in the pan to set.
