Figgy Duff

A traditional Newfoundland steamed pudding, often served alongside a Jiggs Dinner.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix bread crumbs, sugar, raisins, and spices. Stir in melted butter. Dissolve baking soda in milk and add to the mixture. Stir until well combined. Place the mixture into a greased pudding mold or a cloth bag (leaving room for expansion). Place the mold/bag in a large pot of boiling water (the "Jiggs Dinner" pot traditionally). Steam for 2 hours. Serve warm with butter or a sweet sauce.
