Kare Raisu (Japanese Curry Rice)

A thick, stew-like curry that is sweeter and milder than its Indian origins, usually containing beef, potatoes, and carrots, served with sticky white rice.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Sauté meat and onions until browned.
  2. Add potatoes and carrots. Add water and bring to a boil.
  3. Simmer for 20 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  4. Turn off heat and add curry roux cubes. Stir until dissolved.
  5. Add honey and grated apple. Simmer on low for another 10 minutes until thick and glossy.
  6. Serve over hot jasmine or short-grain rice with fukujinzuke pickles.
