New Zealand Meat Pie

Ingredients
- 500g ground beef or lamb 1 onion, finely chopped 1 1/2 cups beef stock 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp tomato paste 2 tbsp cornstarch Shortcrust pastry (base) Puff pastry (top) 1 egg (for wash) Tomato sauce for serving
Instructions
- 1. Sauté onion and ground meat until browned. 2. Stir in beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Simmer for 10 minutes. 3. Thicken the gravy with cornstarch slurry and let cool. 4. Line pie tins with shortcrust pastry. 5. Fill with the meat mixture. 6. Top with puff pastry and seal the edges. 7. Brush with egg wash and bake at 200°C (400°F) for 25 minutes until golden. 8. Serve hot with a generous squeeze of tomato sauce.
