Pampushky (Garlic Bread Rolls)

Soft, fluffy yeast rolls traditionally served with Ukrainian borscht, generously brushed with a potent garlic and herb oil.

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and oil. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal balls. Arrange them in a greased circular baking tin, slightly touching each other.
  5. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. While baking, mix crushed garlic, oil, water, salt, and herbs.
  8. Brush the hot rolls with the garlic mixture immediately after taking them out of the oven.
