Turrón de Doña Pepa

A traditional layered anise-flavored shortbread cookie block, drenched in fruit syrup and topped with colorful sprinkles and candies.

Instructions

  1. Make the dough sticks with anise and sesame. Bake until golden and crisp.
  2. Prepare a thick fruit syrup by boiling chancaca with various fruits until it reaches a soft-ball stage.
  3. Layer the sticks in one direction, cover with syrup. Add a second layer in the opposite direction, cover with more syrup.
  4. Repeat for 3 layers. Decorate the top with plenty of sprinkles and traditional candies.
  5. Let rest for 24 hours before slicing into blocks.
