Zirņu Pikas (Grey Pea Balls)
An ancient Latvian snack made from mashed grey peas and bacon, shaped into small balls.

Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked grey peas 150g smoked bacon, finely diced 1 onion, finely chopped Salt and pepper
Instructions
- 1. Mash the cooked grey peas into a coarse paste (using a meat grinder or food processor). 2. Fry the bacon and onion until crisp. 3. Mix the pea paste with the bacon and onion mixture. 4. Season with salt and pepper. 5. While the mixture is still warm, shape it into small, firm balls (about the size of a golf ball). 6. Serve as a snack or appetizer, often with a glass of buttermilk.
